Episode 11: Creating tools, jigs, and fixtures on the road to end-use parts
In the first episode of Talking Additive’s second season, Jabil Additive’s Director of Product Management, Matt Torosian, discusses how Jabil produces engineering-grade polymer filaments for manufacturing processes and end-use parts.
Jabil is one of the largest manufacturing service providers in the world, and a leader in manufacturing materials and processes. Its factory ecosystem has deployed these solutions for its own print cells for several years, and continues to introduce new materials to the Ultimaker Materials Alliance that help manufacturer increase the capabilities for jigs, fixtures, tooling, – and eventually end-use parts.
Matt has worked in manufacturing polymers for more than 30 years. He sees the additive manufacturing industry as “still in its adolescence,” an important, if challenging, stage during which many discoveries are being made, processes validated, and startling transformations possible as the adoption of 3D printing technology continues to increase.
Matt expects that 3D printing will soon become a tool like any other – injection molding, machining, and CNC – and will be found within the capabilities of every manufacturer.
After the episode launch, we hosted a special “Ask Me” event with Matt Torosian from Jabil Additive on Tuesday, September 22nd from 11am to 12pm Eastern Time where we responded to questions and comments about topics covered during this episode of Talking Additive via hashtag #TalkingAdditive on Twitter.
