Episode 24: 3D printing software at work in manufacturing

In a new episode of Talking Additive, host Matt Griffin examines three software solutions for 3D printing in manufacturing. The episode begins with an excerpt from last month’s Ultimaker Transformation Summit – setting the stage for how parts are designed, optimized, sliced, and created within the 3D printing ecosystem – then continues with three guests, each with specific knowledge about 3D printing software in manufacturing.

Omer Blaier, cofounder and CEO of CASTOR, has developed a software platform that helps manufacturers and engineering firms leverage machine-learning and automation software to quickly evaluate BOMs. He discusses how these tools help manufacturers new to 3D printing overcome incorrect assumptions about which kinds of parts are good candidates, as well as introduces cost and logistics-savings that bring real business value.

Florian de Boeck, cofounder of Spentys, works to deliver a software solution for the medical industry that makes it possible for medical professionals to produce high-quality orthotics by leveraging Spentys’ 3D scanning, orthotics-optimized 3D modeling software. He speaks about the company’s origins – and about how Ultimaker 3D printing has played in helping it introduce on-site, in-clinic fabrication labs for some of its top customers.

Duann Scott is VP of Partnerships at engineering design software company nTopology. He discusses, among other topics, how the platform works by making highly optimized, analysis-validated parts by producing implicit models – and using software processes to produce manufacturing instructions on their production.
