Episode 29: The story of Ultimaker Cura

As part of Ultimaker’s 10th anniversary celebration, Matt Griffin dives into the history of Ultimaker Cura, the open-source slicing application for 3D printers initially created by David Braam, and continually developed by a dedicated team at Ultimaker, together with its community.

Through interviews with Ultimaker Cura’s core developers and product leads – including Jaime van Kessel, Software Architect Slicer Platform at Ultimaker; Ruben Dulek, Software Developer at Ultimaker; and Aldo Hoeben, industrial designer, artist, and Software Developer at FieldofView, who is a frequent contributor to Ultimaker Cura – this episode will give listeners an inside look at its rise to becoming one the most widely adopted software tools in the additive manufacturing space, where it is used by 1 million users worldwide and handles 1.4 million weekly print jobs.

The episode also serves as a foundation to our upcoming episode – the season three finale – which will explore the role that Ultimaker Cura currently plays within Ultimaker's wider platform, adding Ultimaker Digital Factory and the Marketplace to the story, as well as spotlighting a conversation with researcher Tim Kuipers about the Arachne Library, which aims to introduce new capabilities for slicing into Ultimaker Cura.
